About West Pittston
West Pittston lies on the west bank of the Susquehanna River, directly across from Pittston in Luzerne County. Settlement dates to the Revolutionary War era. Fort Jenkins, a Patriot stockade, stood here before it fell to Loyalist forces under Major John Butler on July 1, 1778, two days before the Battle of Wyoming. The borough incorporated in 1857.
Unlike many of its neighbors, West Pittston grew as a residential town rather than a mining center. Its tree-lined grid earned it the nickname the Garden Village. Large Victorian and early-20th-century homes fill the blocks near the river.

The river has shaped the town's modern history. Hurricane Agnes flooded the borough in June 1972, and Tropical Storm Lee pushed the Susquehanna to a crest of 42.66 feet on September 9, 2011, inundating more than a quarter of the town. Actress Marion Lorne was among its natives.
West Pittston covers a compact area a few miles northeast of Wilkes-Barre and had 4,652 residents in 2020. Its market centers on well-kept older homes, with pricing that reflects proximity to the river and the higher ground away from it.
