About West Pittston

West Pittston lies on the west bank of the Susquehanna River, directly across from Pittston in Luzerne County. Settlement dates to the Revolutionary War era. Fort Jenkins, a Patriot stockade, stood here before it fell to Loyalist forces under Major John Butler on July 1, 1778, two days before the Battle of Wyoming. The borough incorporated in 1857.

Unlike many of its neighbors, West Pittston grew as a residential town rather than a mining center. Its tree-lined grid earned it the nickname the Garden Village. Large Victorian and early-20th-century homes fill the blocks near the river.
