McAdoo grew on anthracite mining and later on garment and shirt factories. Its families are heavily of Polish, Italian, and Slovak descent, a legacy of the coal-era immigration that filled the town.
Housing is dense and affordable, built to coal-town patterns of rowhomes and frame houses on tight lots. It offers some of the lowest prices in the greater Hazleton market, a short drive from the city's jobs.
