Meshoppen sits on the North Branch of the Susquehanna River in western Wyoming County. The borough takes its name from Meshoppen Creek, which meets the river here. Meshoppen is a Native American name reported to mean "glass beads."
The population was 326 at the 2020 census, making it one of the county's smallest boroughs. The Old White Mill, a historic mill in the borough, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.
Meshoppen lies along Route 6 between Tunkhannock and Laceyville, about 12 miles west of the county seat. It is a small, affordable river community in a rural, agricultural stretch of the Endless Mountains. Buyers here find modest homes, river frontage, and open land at low prices.
