About Gouldsboro
Gouldsboro is a village on the Wayne and Monroe county line, straddling Lehigh Township and Coolbaugh Township at about 1,900 feet. It is named for the financier Jay Gould, who co-owned a leather tannery in the area before his rise on Wall Street.
Raw hides shipped by rail into Gouldsboro, some from as far as Australia and the western states, then moved by wagon to the tannery. Ice harvesting on Gouldsboro and Tobyhanna lakes ran from about 1900 to 1936, at its peak loading as many as 150 boxcars a day.

Gouldsboro State Park opened in 1958, next to Tobyhanna State Park, on land the state acquired from a former military reservation. The restored Gouldsboro train station now houses a railroad museum. Interstate 380 and Route 507 serve the area, about 20 road miles southeast of Scranton. The community draws vacation-home owners, hunters, and lake and park visitors.
