About Beaver Meadows

Beaver Meadows was incorporated as a borough in 1897, set off from Banks Township. The area was settled in the early 1800s and named for the beaver-dammed meadows along Beaver Creek. The 2020 population was 897.

The borough sits in the Carbon County anthracite country south of Wilkes-Barre and east of Hazleton. It was one of the earliest coal districts in the region.

Coal was found here as early as 1812. The Beaver Meadow Railroad and Coal Company, chartered in 1830, ran some of the first steam locomotives in the anthracite fields by 1836.

Beaver Meadows is a small former coal town. Housing is older and inexpensive, frame and rowhomes on a compact borough footprint, appealing to buyers seeking low-cost homes in the Hazleton orbit.
