About Taylor
Taylor was among the first settlements in what became Lackawanna County and was first called Taylorville. It incorporated as a borough in 1893 and later shortened its name. The town honors Moses Taylor, the New York financier who controlled the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad.
Coal mining and silk manufacturing were the borough's main industries, and much of Taylor is built over former mine workings. The Delaware, Lackawanna and Western built a large reinforced-concrete breaker here in 1915 and 1916, later known as the Moffat Breaker.

Taylor is part of the Riverside School District, which it shares with Moosic. The Pennsylvania Turnpike Northeast Extension runs through the borough with an interchange at Keyser Avenue.
Taylor sits about 4 miles southwest of Scranton along the Lackawanna River, in Lackawanna County. Its population was 6,294 at the 2020 census. Affordable coal-era homes and easy highway access make it a practical commuter borough.
