Peckville is a village within Blakely borough and serves as its main commercial center. It is named for Samuel Peck, who moved to the area from Massachusetts in 1831 and built a saw and grist mill on the site.
Peckville grew during the anthracite era along the Lackawanna River. By the early 1900s it had its own newspaper, the Peckville Journal, a public school, and the Peckville National Bank.
Peckville sits about 8 miles northeast of Scranton in the Mid Valley, in Lackawanna County, and is part of the Valley View School District. It anchors Blakely's business district along Main Street. Coal-era homes and local shops give it a walkable, close-in character, with its population counted within Blakely borough.
