The lake was known as Triangular Lake, and its summer cottage colony dates to the 1880s, with a lake association formed in 1888. The borough is served by the Crestwood School District.

Housing centers on the lake, with lakefront and lake-view homes alongside former cottages converted to year-round use. It is a small waterfront market with easy interstate access in both directions.
