North Abington Township sits in Lackawanna County, about 10 miles north of Scranton and 6 miles north of Clarks Summit. It is one of the small municipalities that make up the suburban and rural district known as the Abingtons.
The township is lightly populated, covering 9.3 square miles with 709 residents at the 2020 census. It borders Waverly Township and Dalton Borough to the south and Benton Township to the north. Part of Lackawanna State Park lies within its bounds, extending north into Benton Township.
North Abington has no public schools of its own. Children attend the Abington Heights School District, one of the region's strongest, with Waverly Elementary, Abington Heights Middle School, and Abington Heights High School. Housing is rural and low-density, a mix of older farmhouses and newer single homes on wooded and open lots, offering acreage and privacy within easy reach of the Clarks Summit and Scranton job markets.
