About Larksville
Larksville was formed from Plymouth Township and incorporated as a borough on November 10, 1909. The community was first called Blindtown and later took the name Larksville, which local history records as honoring a resident named Peggy Lark.
Larksville grew as an anthracite mining borough in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with collieries including the Boston, Loree, Lance, and Woodward. Its population topped 9,000 by 1920 before mining collapsed across the region after the 1959 Knox Mine Disaster.

Larksville lies about 2 miles west of Wilkes-Barre along the Susquehanna on U.S. Route 11. It had 4,225 residents in 2020. Its housing is largely coal-era frame homes on the flats with newer building on the higher ground, at affordable west-side prices.
