About Laflin
Laflin is a small borough in Luzerne County, in the Greater Pittston area. It incorporated in 1889 and was named for an owner of the Laflin and Rand Powder Company, a maker of the blasting powder used in the region's mines.
Laflin stayed small for decades, with about 231 residents in 1890. Its population more than tripled between 1970 and 1980 as it developed into a residential suburb, and it had 1,451 residents in 2020.

The borough covers about 1.3 square miles between Pittston and Wilkes-Barre, served by Interstate 81 and Route 315 and part of the Wilkes-Barre Area School District. Its housing skews newer and more suburban than the surrounding coal-era boroughs, which sets it apart in the local market.
