About Hunlock Creek

Hunlock Creek is an unincorporated village in Hunlock Township, Luzerne County. It takes its name from Jonathan Hunlock, an early settler near the creek, not from a Native American word. Hunlock Township was organized in 1877.

The community lies in a valley near the Susquehanna River, a few miles west of Nanticoke and southwest of Wilkes-Barre. The census reports population for the township, which stood at 2,215 in 2020.

This is rural country between the river and Shickshinny Mountain. Housing is a mix of farmhouses, older homes, and scattered newer builds on wooded and open land.

Hunlock Creek offers acreage and privacy at low prices, within commuting distance of Nanticoke and Wilkes-Barre. It is a rural-living market rather than a suburban one.
