About Hughestown
Hughestown is a borough in Luzerne County, bordering Pittston in the Greater Pittston area. It was settled around 1836 and incorporated as a borough on April 7, 1879, having earlier been part of Pittston Township.
Anthracite coal drove the borough. The Pennsylvania Coal Company's No. 9 Breaker processed coal from the surrounding mines, and mining supported Hughestown into the 20th century before the industry declined and mined land was reclaimed for housing.
