About Hudson
Hudson is a census-designated place in Plains Township, Luzerne County, just northeast of Wilkes-Barre. It sits near the center of the township, a short distance north of the Wilkes-Barre section of Parsons.
Hudson grew as an anthracite and railroad village. By the 1890s it was one of the busier settlements in Plains Township, with depots on both the Delaware and Hudson Railroad and the Central Railroad of New Jersey, along with several hotels and stores serving the mine workforce. Coal mining faded across the Wyoming Valley through the mid-20th century, and the deep mines closed for good after the 1959 Knox Mine Disaster.

Hudson is small and densely built, covering under half a square mile with a 2020 population of 1,436, little changed from 1,443 in 2010. Homes are mostly older frame and vinyl-sided houses on compact lots. The community lies in the Wilkes-Barre Area School District and offers some of the lowest entry prices in the immediate Wilkes-Barre market.
