About Harvey's Lake
Harveys Lake borough was created by court decree in 1965, seated its first officials in 1968, and takes its name from the lake at its center. The lake was named for Benjamin Harvey, a settler said to have come upon it in 1781.
The lake is the largest natural lake in Pennsylvania by volume. It covers about 658 acres and reaches over 100 feet deep. PA Route 415 rings the shoreline, and the borough grew up around recreation and lakeside living. The 2020 population was 2,788.

In its resort era the lake drew visitors to the grand Hotel Oneonta, where Theodore Roosevelt stayed in August 1912. The borough is served by the Lake-Lehman School District.
Harveys Lake sits in the northern Back Mountain, northwest of Wilkes-Barre. Its housing is defined by the water. Lakefront and lake-view homes command the highest prices, mixed with year-round residences and seasonal cottages. It is the region's premier waterfront market.
