Greentown is a village in Greene Township, Pike County. The township formed in 1839 and is named for General Nathanael Greene, the Revolutionary War officer. The village takes its name from the township.
Lumber and tanning built the early economy. Roughly 50 sawmills operated in the township between 1830 and 1900, and the Morss Tannery at Ledgedale was among the largest in the region.
Greentown sits beside Promised Land State Park, established in 1905 as one of Pennsylvania's earliest state parks and developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. The Ledgedale arm of Lake Wallenpaupack reaches the township, and Interstate 84 runs nearby. Vacation and lake-home communities fill the surrounding forest.
