About Dallas
Dallas was first settled in 1797 and incorporated as a borough on April 21, 1879. It is named for Alexander J. Dallas, the sixth United States Secretary of the Treasury.
The borough sits at the commercial center of the Back Mountain, the ring of communities northwest of Wilkes-Barre behind the ridge that walls off the Wyoming Valley. It is small, with 2,694 residents at the 2020 census, but it anchors one of the most sought-after school markets in Luzerne County.

Dallas is home to the Dallas School District, consistently among the top-rated districts in the county. Misericordia University sits just outside the borough in adjacent Dallas Township. Dallas School District alumni include Olympic field hockey player Paige Selenski of nearby Shavertown, and U.S. Representative Dan Meuser lives in the Dallas area.
Dallas Borough is surrounded by Dallas Township and Lehman Township. Housing runs to established suburban neighborhoods and older borough homes, and demand is driven by the schools. It remains a premium address in the Back Mountain.
