About Cresco

Cresco is a community in Barrett Township, Monroe County, on Cranberry Creek. It was first known as Oakland.

In 1856 the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad opened its only Barrett Township station at Cresco, and that stop launched the township's resort era. Visitors came from New York and Philadelphia to the mountain boarding houses.

Passenger trains ran through Cresco into the mid-20th century, ending with the last run in January 1970. The former depot now serves as a train-station museum. Routes 390 and 191 carry local traffic. Cresco keeps a small village core amid the second-home and resort country of Barrett Township.
