About Clarks Summit

Clarks Summit traces to Deacon William Clark, who settled the Abington wilderness in 1799. The village grew into a Scranton commuter suburb after the Northern Electric Railway trolley began running on July 1, 1907, and it incorporated as a borough on August 30, 1911.

Clarks Summit is the commercial center of the Abingtons, the cluster of suburbs north and northwest of Scranton. Its walkable downtown along State Street is known for independent shops rather than chains.
