About Clarks Green
Clarks Green was settled by Deacon William Clark and his sons, who reached the Abingtons in 1799. Its name comes from Deacon William Clark, who made the first clearing here in 1799, and from the triangular several-acre Green at the center of the settlement. It incorporated as a borough in May 1914, and marked its centennial in 2014.
The Philadelphia and Great Bend Turnpike, the Drinker road, chartered in 1819 and finished in 1826, became the first road through the borough, and an early tavern and stagecoach stop served travelers on the route. Clarks Green developed as a small residential community beside Clarks Summit.
