Clarks Green was settled in 1792 by Deacon William Clark and his sons. Its name comes from the Clark family and a green where a local militia once drilled. It incorporated as a borough on May 5, 1914, and marked its centennial in 2014.
The Philadelphia and Great Bend Turnpike became the first road through the borough in 1812, and an early tavern and stagecoach stop served travelers on the route. Clarks Green developed as a small residential community beside Clarks Summit.
Clarks Green sits just northwest of Scranton in Lackawanna County, adjoining Clarks Summit and sharing its school district and ZIP code. Its population was 1,524 at the 2020 census. It is a compact, affluent Abington suburb of established single-family homes.
