Lehman Township was incorporated in 1829 and named in honor of Dr. William Lehman. The village of Lehman sits within it. The township's 2020 population was 3,342.
It is home to Penn State Wilkes-Barre, whose campus occupies the former Hayfield Farm, and it gives the Lake-Lehman School District half its name. Lake-Lehman High School is located here.
Lehman lies in the Back Mountain northwest of Wilkes-Barre, drained by Hunlock, Harveys, and Huntsville creeks. It is more rural than the Dallas core, with hills, forest, and farmland.
Housing runs to single-family homes on larger lots and country parcels. Buyers get the well-regarded Lake-Lehman schools and a college campus nearby, with more land than the closer-in Back Mountain suburbs offer.
