About Drums

Drums is an unincorporated village in Butler Township, Luzerne County, named for the Drum family who settled and built there in the late 18th century. St. John's Church in the area dates to 1799.

It lies about six miles from Hazleton in the farmland of the Conyngham Valley. The census counts population at the township level rather than for Drums itself.

Drums is served by the Hazleton Area School District. Once a farming village, it shifted toward suburban commuter housing through the 20th century.

Housing is a mix of older village homes and newer development on larger, semi-rural lots. It works as a quieter, greener alternative to the city for buyers commuting into the Hazleton job market.
