About Dalton

Dalton was first known as Bailey Hollow, after the pioneer Bailey families. It incorporated as a borough in 1895 from North Abington Township. The town is named for Dr. Edward Dalton, a Civil War surgeon and health official.

Farming and lumbering were the earliest industries. The Leggetts Gap Railroad, a division of the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western, reached Dalton in 1850 and spurred its growth. The Northern Electric trolley later served the town as well.
